The LQ track team is back and ready for another season. Returning LQ star athletes include: Tyler Brown (12), Evan Dougherty (12), Alex Orozco (11), Megan Huebner (10), Allison Rowe (12), and Breeanny Meza (11).
The LQ track teams came out on top when they competed in a home meet against Cathedral City Lions on Thursday, March 22. Going into the meet, the girls had a overall record of 3-0 and the boys had a record of 2-1.
The team succeeded in having many events won. Leading the team, were Kayla Wilson (9), Aileen Galicia (9), Allison Rowe (12), and Tyler Brown.
Wilson succeeded in taking first in the 100, 200, and was part of the winning 4×4 relay team. Galicia stole the win in the 300 hurdles and the 400, as well as being a part of the 4×4 relay that took the win.
Huebner, as always, took the win in the 800, 2 mile, the mine, and the 4×4 relay. Rowe (12), took wins in the discus, high jump, and the triple jump. Brown, being a star athlete since his freshman year, contributed a first place finish in four events.
Both Blackhawks succeeded in taking the win, girls with a final score of 74-53 and boys with a score of 72-59. “We’ve got some freak athletes,” said Coach Flores following their big win. “We have Indio coming up and that’s big for us. It’s always a great race. The Blackhawks will face the Indio High School Rajahs on April 12 at 3:15 on the Rajah’s track.
