After receiving the National Milken Educator Award and a prize for $25,000, what else could a math teacher ask for?
How about a visit from the stork?
Cathedral City High School math teacher Carrie Carnes was surprised by CCHS staff with a surprise baby shower on Wednesday afternoon. Yes, she is pregnant and expecting a beautiful baby boy who will be named Ethan. “I am very excited for the baby,” said Carnes. “It’s starting to become very real. The due date is August 2nd.”
What started as a small surprise baby shower hosted by the math department ended up being an invitation for all CCHS staff. “As the news spread, more people wanted to join so I decided to invite all the staff,” said Math teacher Cami Saliba.
“I didn’t suspect anything about it. You saw my face. But I guess I was a little early,” said Carnes. It wasn’t as much as a surprise as was expected. When Carnes walked into the teachers’ lounge where the party was been held, there were only about three teachers still setting up the room.
“Its been a wonderful year,” said Carnes. “It’s been fun and exiting. I’ve been really blessed this year.”
Carnes is taking a year off from teaching.
