Cathedral City High School’s very own Lion’s Pride chamber singers sung their hearts out in the Open Call talent competition all week at the McCallum theatre in Palm Desert.
The chamber singers competed in the category ensemble Thursday April 26 through Saturday the 28th against Gerald Colucci, and marimbist Dillon Trollope accompanied by the Desert Hot Springs High School Steel Orchestra, Concerto for Marimba and Steel Orchestra.
“It was almost a full house, there were almost 2,000 people but you can’t see anyone because it’s so dark in the theatre, but it’s really fun” said chamber singer Carly Castelleno.
Gerald Colucci won the grand prize of 2,500 and the Desert Hot Springs Steel Orchestra followed in with second place.
“We’ve done so much rehearsing we don’t get that nervous anymore. May LeRoy, our teacher, doesn’t even conduct anymore. We just listen to each other and make sure things are right,” said chamber singer Jeffrey Peterson.
